Costa Rica Hosted the International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award Ceremony
The Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony took place this year in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The ceremony brought together more than 500 participants, including representatives from the United Nations and esteemed ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests.

During the meetings organized as part of the ceremony, Uzbekistan’s anti-corruption reforms received high praise from the international experts.

In honor of the occasion, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar and His Excellency Rodrigo Chaves Robles, President of the Republic of Costa Rica together with other distinguished guests revealed a 12-meter statue in La Sabana Park just before the ceremony.

For reference: In 2023, the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The steel statue of the raised hand signifying the international communities’ efforts to combat corruption was constructed in the Tashkent City International Business Center.

The International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award is given to recipients according to five distinct categories, which are: Lifetime or Outstanding Achievement, Academic Research and Education, Youth Creativity and Engagement, Innovation or Investigative Journalism, and Safeguarding Sports from Corruption. Recognized in the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony were:
1. Dr. Muna D. Buchahin (Mexico) - Lifetime or Outstanding Achievement
2. Professor Robert Klitgaard (USA) and Professor Alberto Vannucci (Italy)- Academic Research and Education
3. Ms Khadija Sharife (South Africa) - Innovation / Investigative Journalism
4. Dr. Rodrigo Arias Grillo (Spain) and Professor Ilias Bantekas (Greece) - Safeguarding Sports from Corruption
5. Mr. Gayo James Mpuya (Tanzania) and Mejor Mexico (Mexico) - Youth Creativity and Engagement
